Katy Perry could well have been talking about the weird winter we are having right now when she sang  Hot N Cold . NASA’s Earth Observatory has put the current weather situation in perspective by plotting global land surface temperatures on a map.

To mark World Diabetes Day 2016, the Statista infographic below looks at the global cost of diabetes in 2015 and International Diabetes Federation projections for 2040. Around the world last year, 672 billion dollars was spent on healthcare to combat the ever-more prevalent disease. By 2040, this figure is forecast to rise to 803 billion with the largest share of expenditure in North America and the Caribbean. 

Saudi Arabia ranked bottom in a list as the most toxic country due to its high levels of air pollution, while Kenya topped it as the country that creates the least damage to the planet.
